Pen first, then pitchfork

Dave McGowan made his living as a cartoonist. When that work dried up, he went to the farm, and today he farms outside Madison, Virginia, with the Blue Ridge Mountains out past the fence line.

He likes the life up there and the animals that come with it. When the chores are done he's fishing the Shenandoah River or picking at his guitar, and the stories from those days end up in his lyrics.
